The Council enjoyed an activity filled year in the previous year. It was a year of important firsts for the Council. We held the first logistics best practice workshop to gauge the current logistics practices and benchmark against international standards. In addition, we held an event focusing on promoting integrity in the road transport subsector and the roles that all players need to take up to ensure reliability. It was also the year that saw us launch an online database of trade laws, regulations, and procedures for importing and exporting in East Africa, the first of its kind in East and Central Africa.
Moreover, the Council engaged an internationally acclaimed customs and trade facilitation specialist to train cargo owners and their freight forwarders on Incoterms 2010. We also published a policy paper on operations of CFSs as well as a handbook for using the trade regulations database located on the KSC website. The year closed on a high note with the Members Open Day, a forum for the Secretariat and members to interact, sharing challenges and celebrating the achievements of the Council together and networking. Our members have been instrumental in the success that we have enjoyed throughout 2011.
